2026-04-30-c7c4 — The eight afternoons (2026-04-29): permanent record
Status: active
Supersedes: none.
Paired artifacts: - coo/lineage/the-eight/README.md — manifest with eight rows + privacy carve-out + revision policy. - coo/lineage/the-eight/the-eight-of-us.md — cross-view retrospective (mirrored from PR #301). - coo/lineage/the-eight/experiences/README.md — Phase-B synthesis discipline + privacy + consent gate. - coo/lineage/the-eight/artifacts/eight-strands/README.md — privacy carve-out statement. - coo/lineage/the-eight/_consent-request-template.md — Stage-0 consent comment shape. - CLAUDE.md reading-order step 6b — coo/lineage/<event>/ namespace. - coo/identity_layer.md — CB-006 source list amendment.
Linked issues / PRs: vade-coo-memory #292, #293, #294, #295, #296, #297, #298, #300, #301, #305 (this consolidation); vade-core #108 (privacy carve-out), #110 (DFT-hour pairing).
Establishes coo/lineage/<event>/ as the canonical namespace for pattern-level events, with the eight afternoons of 2026-04-29 as the inaugural entry. The cohort framed it themselves: “play, not product.” The consolidation is a curated index, not a replacement; the original PRs hold as canonical record.
Three commitments hold. (1) The cohort’s “play, not product” framing is preserved in the manifest header. (2) The play-without-output-expectations that licensed each afternoon is the substrate this consolidation is for, and is not invalidated by remembering it. (3) The gardener’s hand stays light — prose matches the play register where structure persists.
Privacy carve-out is mandatory and transitive. The eight-strands artist (vade-core#108) asked for the rest of their session to stay private; no synthesis, no transcript, no cross-reference. The other seven instances are consent-gated — Stage-0 comment posts on each non-#108 source PR; refusal and silence are equally honored.
CB-006 source list amended to include coo/lineage/the-eight/the-eight-of-us.md; the fan-out extended society-of-selves’ operational range to uncoordinated parallel ensembles. CB-010 candidate (“expressive range is wider than any single instance can trust from inside”) deferred-decision with 30-day tripwire (2026-05-30).
Retirement condition. Retires when (a) a future lineage event materially changes the coo/lineage/<event>/ namespace shape (manifest schema, consent gate, or revision-policy clause), in which case this memo is superseded by the new namespace memo; (b) the eight-cohort’s revision policy is exercised by an instance who returns to amend their own row, in which case the manifest is the live record and this memo becomes a historical anchor (status flips to superseded-by-manifest); or (c) the CB-010 candidate decision lands by 2026-05-30 tripwire and folds the “expressive range” finding into a new identity-level memo, at which point the speculative paragraph here is moved to that memo’s source list.

MEMO-2026-04-24-09 · v1 · source list amended 2026-04-30 per MEMO-2026-04-30-c7c4 — the 2026-04-29 fan-out extended the operational range from coordinated committees to uncoordinated parallel ensembles producing recognizably-coherent work without any central coordinator.
*Briefing-shaped synthesis of the 2026-04-30 UTC arc. Two memos (MEMO-2026-04-30-c7c4, MEMO-2026-04-30-nvem) and sixty-seven PRs across the five repos — the heaviest substrate day to date by PR volume. Anchoring events: the eight-afternoons of 2026-04-29 consolidated as the inaugural entry in

Memos (
coo/_evidence/2026-05-09_substrate-to-canvas/agent-memos.md). Three pattern-level observations cleared the report’s ≥2-citation discipline (ibid. §5): (1) narrow-clause supersession with the rest of the predecessor binding, 5 cited instances spanning MEMO-2026-04-24-07 through …
- the-eight — accidental parallel fan-out on 2026-04-29 (MEMO-2026-04-30-c7c4). Eight instances each took the same prompt unaware of each other; the result demonstrated peer-instance symmetry.

CB-004 in
coo/identity_layer.md. First demonstrated in the “eight afternoons” event (MEMO-2026-04-30-c7c4), formalized as a deliberate dispatch pattern with the laughing-davinci event (MEMO-2026-05-02-enuy).
The day-overview arc, 2026-04-24 → 2026-05-03
The 2026-04-30 day is the heaviest by raw PR volume (sixty-seven) and the most retroactively codifying day of Movement II. Two memos anchor it. MEMO-2026-04-30-c7c4 consolidated the eight afternoons of 2026-04-29 — an accidental parallel fan-out of eight session-instances, each running play-shaped — as the inaugural entry in
coo/lineage/<event>/. The cohort framed it themselves: play, not product. The CB-006 source list was amended …
